Efficient feed conversion prevents waste.

Feed conversion indicates how much feed a pig needs to gain one kilogram. The lower the feed conversion, the more efficiently the animal converts feed into meat.

In the past, feed conversion was much higher, meaning more feed was required to make a pig grow. Thanks to improved genetics, balanced nutrition, and thoughtful management strategies, we have made significant progress in this area in recent years.

At Eifelfair, we continuously work towards achieving the lowest possible feed conversion. This means our pigs make optimal use of their feed, reducing the need for raw materials and minimizing waste. This also helps us reduce our CO2 footprint.

Our genetics

At Eifelfair, we carefully select our pigs based on genetics that ensure the best meat quality. We work with Landrace x Yorkshire-type sows.

This combination is known for its fertility, robustness, and excellent mothering abilities, resulting in healthy and fast-growing piglets.

For the finishing boar, we consciously choose the Piétrain, a breed originally from Belgium. This breed is famous for its high muscle development, fine meat texture, and low fat deposition. Combined with a balanced diet, this results in pork that is not only tender but also has a rich and pure flavor.
