Our farms are powered by green energy and use water efficiently. The feed for our animals is grown responsibly, focusing on circularity and local production.
Why focus on sustainability?
Sustainability in agriculture is important because it contributes to future-proof food production with respect for people, animals, and the environment. We want to guarantee our customers that the meat is produced responsibly, with efficient use of resources and minimal environmental impact.
This means we focus on sustainable feed production, reuse of by-products, and a transparent supply chain, so our customers can enjoy high-quality meat with peace of mind.
Green energy
Our farms use renewable energy sources such as solar power to reduce COâ‚‚ emissions. We have approximately 9,000 m² of solar panels on the roofs of our barns. Additionally, we have invested in batteries to store the generated electricity. As a result, we are able to generate 87% of our energy needs ourselves, reducing our dependence on fossil fuels.
Efficient water use
Water is a valuable resource, which is why we take measures to prevent waste. Our farmers use smart drinking water systems that minimize waste, as well as rainwater harvesting systems to reuse water for cleaning the barns. By optimizing water cycles, we reduce our impact on natural water sources and protect the environment.
Responsible feed
The nutrition of our animals plays a crucial role in sustainable farming. We choose feeds that are grown responsibly, with minimal environmental impact. This means we prioritize crops that are locally grown and meet strict standards.
Circularity
On our farms, we focus on a closed-loop system where waste streams are reused. The manure from our animals is used as natural fertilizer for crops, which are then used as feed for the animals. This reduces the need for synthetic fertilizers and helps to retain nutrients efficiently in farming. By closing loops as much as possible, we minimize waste and maximize the reuse of resources.
Air washers
At Eifelfair, we are committed to sustainable and environmentally friendly pig farming. An important part of this is the use of air washers, which significantly reduce the emissions of odor, ammonia, and particulate matter.
Here’s how it works: the air is passed through a special filtration system, where pollutants are captured through water or chemical processes. This not only contributes to a cleaner living environment for both humans and animals, but also helps reduce the environmental impact
